Book Oven Features
Book Oven helps teams of people turn manuscripts into finished books, and then publish them. It is built for writers, editors, proofreaders, designers and small presses.
Reading & Annotation
We have taken great care in designing a reading view built specially for long text, but native to the web. Readers, editors, reviewers, writers can leave paragraph-by-paragraph annotations on a text, and writers/editors can edit the text, based on those annotations.
Bite-Size Edits
Bite-Size Edits is a new way to proofread texts. Bite-Size Edits chops a text up into sentences and serves them at random to proofreaders, either in private to the project owner, to a small group, or to the world at large. If you can believe it, Bite-Size Edits actually makes proofreading fun — and addictive.
How Book Oven Works
Here are the basics of how Book Oven works*:
- As a writer, you either start writing on Book Oven, or upload text of an existing manuscript
- You either invite collaborators (editors, designers, reviewers, proofreaders), or find them on our site
- You work with editors/reviewers to improve your text. Your editors can leave annotations in the margins of your text, and if they have the right permissions, they can directly edit the text
- You can use Bite-Size Edits to proofread/copyedit your text - either by yourself, in a private group, or by opening your project to the world
- When you are ready to publish your text, you can generate an .epub ebook file, an html file, or a PDF file
- Eventually, you'll be able to generate a PDF formatted for print-on-demand
- Eventually, you'll be able to sell the epub and print-on-demand book in the Book Oven store, and through partner retailers
More detail about the mechanics of Book Oven can be found in our FAQ.
